Networking

I am researching organizations to join, events and groups to help me with networking and which events or groups I could join to help me in the future.

Megaphono started in Ottawa and it is a festival and organization that helps musicians in the local area. This year was their first festival and they showcased many of their artists some also performed at Canadian Music Week. Megaphono is run buy John Bartlett and Leslie Marshall who own Kelp Records.

The Music Business Network started by a student getting her M.A in Music Business at Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, & Human Development. It was set up to help students get more music business networking opportunities. Even though it is in USA there are other countries that hold networking events and some networking is done through their website which you can become a member.

Toronto Music Industry Meetup is a group that meets weekly of musicians, label owners, bookers, publicists, mixers, engineers and bloggers. They meet up to share their knowledge of the music industry and how they can change or strengthen it. I found this group interesting and very important as I want to move to Toronto and it will help me find work in the music industry there.

Oimc is an event that was on the previous weekend and it was the first OIMC and they hope to continue it in the future. It is a platform for electronic and live music for audiences, venues and artists to connect. They started the OIMC to share knowledge and help grow the music industry in the capital of Canada. They hold events, seminars, workshops, panels and parties and spans over three nights and two days of convention functions.
